Theetge stifled Mount St. Mary’s during the second half of Saturday’s double header, twirling an absolute gem to win for the fifth time in his last five NEC starts. The sophomore southpaw went the distance in a two-hit shutout, retiring the last 18 batters to face him. Theetge struck out six batters while walking none over 7.0 scoreless frames. The lone hits allowed by Theetge were a pair of unconventional first-inning singles. After Mount’s Jared Urban led off the game with a bunt single to third base, Theetge retired back-to-back batters before Will Enrico stepped to the plate with a runner on first. Enrico hit a ball to the right side of the infield and it proceeded to make contact with Urban, resulting in a single for the batter and an inning-ending putout of the baserunner. The tall lefty needed only 76 pitches to complete the outing, firing 53 strikes.
