Costello was a driving force behind Central Connecticut’s 4-0 week, which featured a three-game sweep of NEC Nutmeg State rival Sacred Heart. The junior infielder slugged 1.063 while reaching base at a .682 clip. He recorded at least one extra-base hit, one run scored and one walk in each of CCSU’s four victories. In a mid-week victory over MAAC member Quinnipiac, Costello reached base six times (four hits, two walks) and scored five of SHU’s 24 runs. He homered, doubled and walked in the series opener against Sacred Heart. Costello led off the third inning of the eventual 11-5 win by blasting one over the right-field wall. Breaking a scoreless tie in the fourth frame of Game 2, the starting third baseman doubled with one out and came around to touch home on a RBI groundout two batters later. He also walked twice in the 9-1 triumph. Helping CCSU to a 9-5 win in the finale, he laced a two-run double that turned a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 advantage in the third inning.
