WEEK 10 STATS: 5 appearances, .368 BA (7-for-19), 2 HR, 1 2B, 10 RBI, 5 runs, 2 BB
Gasper was the NEC’s top run producer last week, driving in 10 runs over five games. The veteran backstop hit .368 (7-for-19) with two home runs, one double, 10 RBI and five runs scored. After going hitless in his first four at-bats of the week, Gasper found his stroke in the eighth inning of Tuesday’s tilt against MAAC member Quinnipiac. He launched a three-run bomb that broke a 4-4 tie with one out in the eighth and held up as the game-winning hit in a 7-6 triumph. During Bryant’s four-game weekend NEC series split with Central Connecticut, Gasper reached base at a .471 clip while logging six hits, seven RBI and two walks. He did not strike in any of his 14 at-bats against CCSU and recorded at least two hits and two RBI in three of the four contests. In the series opener, the Bulldogs’ No. 3 hitter cranked a two-run home run to give Bryant a 4-0 lead in the third inning of an eventual 6-3 victory. He also added a RBI double in the fifth frame. Gasper, who moved down to the cleanup spot, connected on run-scoring singles in the sixth and seventh innings of Game 2, a 7-0 triumph for the Bulldogs. After an 0-for-3 showing in Game 3, Gasper bounced back by reaching base three times and driving in two runs during the series finale. He opened the game’s scoring with a two-out, RBI single in the top of the first. Gasper chased another run home with a sacrifice fly during a ninth-inning rally that came up short.
