DeFilippo was the key catalyst in Sacred Heart’s lineup as the Pioneers won four of five games last week. Over five starts, the versatile utility man hit .500 (9-for-18) and posted a .591 on-base percentage. Helping the Pioneers to a series victory over NEC rival Fairleigh Dickinson, DeFilippo totaled eight hits, four walks, three stolen bases, seven runs scored and five RBI in four games. He scored runs in the second, third and seventh innings of the series opener before providing the decisive hit in the eighth. His one-out single through the left side plated Ted Shaw with the winning run in SHU’s 6-5 comeback victory. Helping the Pioneers to another 6-5 victory in Game 2, DeFilippo crossed home plate with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth frame. He went 2-for-2 with two walks during Sacred Heart‘s 15-9 win in Game 3. DeFilippo also logged two hits in the series finale, including a three-run second-inning double.
