Hinckley silenced Patriot League preseason favorite Holy Cross to the tune of 5.0 one-hit innings. He struck out seven batters and walked no one en-route to the win. Earning the start in CCSU’s season opener, the senior right-hander set down the first 11 Crusaders to face him. Holy Cross’ first base-runner came on a hit-by-pitch with two outs in the fourth inning, but Hinckley responded by fanning the ensuing batter for the third out. After Austin Masel broke up Hinckley’s no-hit big with a single leading off the fifth, the CCSU righty retired the next three hitters in order and left with a 2-0 lead after 5.0 frames of work. Hinckley, who threw 45 of his 62 pitches for strikes, faced only 17 batters, two over the minimum.
