Somers turned in a blistering performance over the weekend for Sacred Heart. The freshman completed the 100 free in 52.42, which was the best time amongst NEC swimmers this year and almost broke Sacred Heart’s race record. After that victory, Somers swam the 50 free in 24:19, which was the second-best time in the NEC this year and just .07 seconds behind Saint Francis U swimmer Katie Lafferty’s time of 24:12. Somers also swam the last leg of the 400 free relay with a 51:56 split that erased a 1.47 second deficit to propel the Pioneers to victory.
