Sambuco was awarded her second NEC Defensive Player of the Week honor after leading the Pioneers to a pair of wins, including a 3-2 double overtime victory over NEC contender Saint Francis U on Friday. The sophomore made six saves against the Red Flash, including four in extra time to keep SFU at bay. She followed with five saves, including a key stop in the 86th minute, in SHU’s 1-0 win over LIU Brooklyn on Sunday. The shutout was Sambuco’s NEC-best eighth of the season along with her fourth in NEC play. She leads the league with a 0.93 goals against average and .832 save percentage.
