Short reached base at least twice during each of Sacred Heart’s five games last week. Helping the Pioneers to a 4-1 record, the veteran shortstop accounted for a .667 on-base percentage while registering eight hits and six bases on balls. For the week, Short hit .533 (8-for-15) with two doubles, one triple, five RBI and five runs scored. He earned his way on base three times during the series-opening setback and continued the production as the Pioneers won the next three contests. Short scored twice during Game 2, including breaking a 2-2 tie with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. After singling in the fourth frame of Game 3, a 5-4 win for SHU, he connected on a two-run single in the fifth. In the series finale, Short produced a run-scoring base knock as the Pioneers erased a 4-0 deficit with a seven-run eighth inning. Short was sensational in a 7-0 mid-week shutout of Ivy League member Yale, going 4-for-4 at the plate with three extra-base hits, two RBI and two runs scored. In the field, Short played an error-free shortstop during four of the five contests last week.
