WEEK 7 STATS: 5 games, .421 BA (8-for-19), 3 2B, 3 HR, 10 RBI, 5 R, 1.053 slugging pct.
McCarthy recorded at least one hit in each of Bryant’s five games last week and produced plenty of power during the Bulldogs’ series victory over NEC rival Fairleigh Dickinson. For the week, Bryant’s starting backstop slugged 1.053 and reached base safely at a .458 clip. Over the course of four road games against FDU, McCarthy clubbed three homers and three doubles while accounting for 10 RBI. The senior catcher accounted for three productive plate appearances in Bryant’s series-opening victory. He logged a sacrifice fly, a run-scoring double and a bases-loaded walk in the 6-2 triumph. McCarthy doubled again in Game 2, accounting for Bryant’s lone extra-base hit in a 10-3 setback. The Bulldogs’ veteran backstop exploded for three home runs and seven RBI during the second half of the four-game set at FDU. McCarthy launched a two-run bomb in the fifth inning of Game 3 and tacked on an important run with a seventh-inning sac fly in the eventual 11-9 win. He homered twice in the series finale, powering Bryant to a runaway victory. Contributing to a 6-5 mid-week win over Atlantic-10 member Rhode Island, McCarthy singled to lead off the fifth inning and eventually came around to score the Bulldogs’ first run of the game on a wild pitch.
