Kachmar was sensational while making a pair of appearances for Fairleigh Dickinson last week. Limiting opponents to a .133 batting average, he pitched 8.2 innings to the tune of an 0.00 earned-run average. Kachmar started his week by retiring all five batters he faced during 1.2 innings of mop-up duty against Big East member St. Johns. With skipper Gary Puccio handing him the ball to start the second half of Saturday’s doubleheader against Lehigh, the rookie righty dazzled. Twirling a complete-game 7-0 shutout, Kachmar scattered four hits and three walks over 7.0 innings of work. He struck out five Mountain Hawks, including the game’s final batter.
