Ellzy had a breakout weekend in the circle, taking down two Big Ten teams and a borderline top-25 program while making three starts. The rookie right-hander went the distance in all three of the Colonials' victories at Florida Atlantic’s Parents’ Weekend Tournament. She opened the tournament by throwing a gem against event host FAU, which entered the game with a 19-2 record and was receiving votes in the latest NFCA Top 25 Poll. Ellzy stifled the Owls to the tune of three hits and one unearned run over 7.0 innings in the 2-1 triumph. The Ohio product took the ball the following day and twirled a one-hitter against No. 17 Minnesota. Shutting down a team that entered averaging 6.0 runs per contest, Ellzy allowed only one single and one unearned run in a complete-game 4-1 victory over the Big Ten member. The RMU rookie gave a second Big Ten team a taste of her potency on the tournament’s final day. Ellzy threw all 8.0 frames of the Colonials’ 5-4 victory over Rutgers. Allowing only one earned run, she scattered seven singles and, for the third consecutive start, registered 15 ground ball outs. Ellzy pitched to an 0.59 ERA last week and did not allow an extra-base hit.
