Catone spearheaded St. Francis Brooklyn’s first-place finish at the Kutztown Golden Bear Classic. The rookie right-hander, who struck a team-best 39.2 percent of the time, averaged 18.80 pins per frame over the course of the three-day tournament, which consisted solely of baker style competition. Nearly half of her 49 strikes came during Sunday’s championship bracket play. The Empire State product was sensational throughout the event’s final day, lifting the Terriers from fourth place to first. She left only three frames open on Sunday, powering SFBK to best-of-7 baker wins over Caldwell, tournament host Kutztown and Sacred Heart. Catone started the day by filling all 12 frames, nine with strikes, during the Terriers’ 4-to-2 victory over Caldwell. She filled 12 of 14 frames in a seven-game semifinal victory over Kutztown. Catone struck nine more times while filling 13 of 14 frames in St. Francis Brooklyn’s 4-to-3 triumph over Sacred Heart in the meet’s title match.
