Catone didn’t cool off one bit during the winter recess. The first-year competitor opened the season’s second half by leading St. Francis Brooklyn to an 11-2 record at the Fred Underwood Lady Bulldogs Classic hosted by Bowie State. Catone accounted for a team-best 19.85 overall frame average over the course of the three-day tournament. The 4-foot-11 right-hander struck on 42 percent of her chances throughout the weekend and posted an .806 filled frames percentage. During five traditional team matches on Saturday, Catone produced a 208.0 game average to rank third overall on the event’s individual leader board. The Empire State product set a St. Francis Brooklyn program record by throwing a 296 against No. 7 Fairleigh Dickinson, rolling 11 consecutive strikes before suffering a 6-count on her final ball. Catone again exceeded the 200-pin mark later in the day, posting a 216 in a runaway win over Virginia Union. The rookie righty did complete a “perfect” game during Sunday’s best-of-7 championship bracket play. Keying the Terriers’ 4-0 sweep of MEAC member Hampton, she filled all eight of her frames with strikes. Catone, who closed out the fall semester by securing MVP honors at the one-day Terriers’ Knockdown, earned a spot on the Lady Bulldogs’ All-Tournament Team for her efforts.
