Kovatch’s scoring binge keyed Saint Francis’ sweep of the NEC’s Brooklyn-based contingent. Leading all scorers in road wins over LIU Brooklyn and St. Francis Brooklyn, the freshman guard poured in 56 points during 63 minutes of playing time. Averaging 28.0 points and 2.0 assists per victory, Kovatch shot 41.5 percent from the field and was nearly flawless (14-of-15) from the charity stripe during the two-game swing through New York City. She tipped off the trip by notching her fifth 30-point performance of the season, netting 30 points in 31 minutes as the Red Flash dealt LIU Brooklyn its first NEC loss. Connecting at a .455 rate from beyond the arc, Kovatch sank five three-pointers during the 84-75 win over the Blackbirds. Two days later, Kovatch contributed 26 points, two assists and two steals to an 83-76 triumph over St. Francis Brooklyn. The Garden State product victimized the Terriers from the free throw line, going a perfect 11-for-11 in the Monday night victory. Building on SFBK’s two-point advantage, she converted six free throw attempts over the game’s final 2:01. Kovatch, who accounted for an 8-for-19 clip from downtown during SFU’s Brooklyn trip, makes an average of 3.79 three-pointers per contest, a mark that leads all NCAA Division I shooters. Her 23.1 points per game scoring average ranks second overall on the NEC leader board and is tops amongst all NCAA Division I freshmen.
