Johnson contested a major collegiate tournament for the first time and was a key contributor to LIU Brooklyn’s winning weekend at the Jersey Jamboree. The first-year Blackbird posted the highest overall frame average amongst all NEC rookies in attendance. Competing at Carolier Lanes only a few miles away from her hometown of Edison, NJ, Johnson converted more than 55 percent of her strike attempts and averaged 20.76 pins per frame over the course of seven starts. After being inserted into the lineup midway through Friday’s proceedings, she went on to contest seven of LIU’s 10 traditional team matches to the tune of a 207.57 game average. Johnson exceeded the 200-pin mark during five of the seven contests. Her 231-pin performance helped the Blackbirds to a comfortable win over MEAC member Howard. Johnson produced a 213 game in a tight, 20-pin triumph over No. 22 Adelphi, a former NEC rival. She saved her weekend high game for the Blackbirds’ bout with No. 6 Sam Houston State, a program that advanced into the 2015 NCAA semifinals after winning the national title in 2014. The right-handed rookie threw a 232 as part of LIU’s thrilling 34-pin victory over the Bearkats. Johnson flashed the power of her strike ball on Friday and Saturday, cashing in on 45 of 81 strike attempts.
