WEEK 8 STATS: 10 total tackles, 3 PBU, 1 blocked kick
Elmore made a number of key plays to help keep rival Sacred Heart’s offense at bay during the Blue Devils’ 26-10 road win. CCSU’s veteran cornerback totaled 10 tackles (7 solo) and three pass break-ups as the defense kept SHU out of the end zone for the first 56:54 of the annual intrastate rivalry game. Not intimidated by his opponent’s size, he forced SHU into a first-quarter field goal attempt by tightly covering tackle Connor Caveney who was targeted on a 3rd-and-goal pass from the 3-yard line. Elmore was essential to preserving a 3-3 tie in the final two minutes of the first half. The 5-foot-10 defensive back denied Tyler Dube – the NEC’s leading receiver – on a 2nd-and-Goal play from the 4-yard line. With SHU attempting a chip shot field goal two snaps later, Elmore broke free to stuff the potential tie-breaking kick. After Central increased its lead to 17-3 midway through the third quarter, Elmore derailed Sacred Heart’s ensuing drive. He stopped Moses Webb for no gain on a first-down WR screen attempt and broke up a pass to Dube one play later. Elmore was also effective when defending the run, stopping Noel at the line of scrimmage of SHU’s first snap of the fourth quarter. Later on that drive, he batted away a pass intended for Dube on a 3rd-and-8 play from the CCSU 15.
