WEEK 4 STATS:  8 total tackles, 1.0 TFL, INT, 2 PBU
Smith made his presence felt during the Colonials’ contest at No. 6 South Dakota State. The veteran linebacker totaled eight tackles (6 solo) and successfully defended three passes as Robert Morris held SDSU to its lowest point total since last year’s FCS playoff setback at North Dakota State. Smith made his first of numerous impactful plays with SDSU looking to build upon its 7-0 first-quarter advantage. The linebacker abruptly ended the JackRabbits’ second trip into the red zone by picking off pass at Robert Morris’ 13-yard line. Smith was extremely active during SDSU’s opening possession of the second half, forcing an eventual turnover on downs.  He made a hit for no gain and another one that resulted in a 3-yard loss and recorded a PBU during the drive. Five of Smith’s eight total tackles prevented SDSU from gaining a first down on the play and three of them limited the ball carrier to no gain or less.
