WEEK 1 STATS: 6 total tackles, 0.5 TFL, 2 INT, 1 PBU
The safety started his sophomore season by performing a feat that only 17 other men managed to accomplish during the past one-quarter century of RMU football. Making multiple interceptions in the same game, Richards produced a pair of first-half picks that allowed Robert Morris to take a 10-0 lead into the locker room. The sophomore’s first pick, which came on Dayton’s first possession of the second quarter, set up the Colonials’ first touchdown while his second interception halted a UD drive at the Robert Morris’ 21-yard line. Spearheading a defensive effort that bottled up Dayton’s all-time leading rusher, Richards totaled six tackles as Connor Kacsor was limited to 2.2 yards per carry. The strong safety made what was arguably his most impressive hit when he dropped Kacsor for a 2-yard loss on a 2-and-2 run play, leading to a UD punt two snaps later.
