McCarthy’s work at, and behind, the plate helped Bryant secure its fourth straight NEC regular season crown. During the first three games of the Bulldogs’ four-game set at second-place Wagner, McCarthy logged four extra-base hits and drove in seven runs. He reached base safely in all four games en-route to a .400 (6-for-15) batting average for the series. McCarthy was at his best during Game 3 of the series. Spearheading Bryant’s 11-run effort, the junior catcher blasted a 3-rin homer and doubled twice in the title-clinching victory. The long ball, which was his second of the weekend, came during Bryant’s 8-run third inning that ended with the Bulldogs holding a 9-3 advantage. McCarthy connected on a solo blast that put Bryant on the scoreboard in the second inning of the series opener. In the decisive sixth inning of that same game, he drew an intentional walk and came around to score the Bulldogs’ final run of the 4-1 triumph.
