Hutchins’ senior outdoor season is off to a roaring start. Contesting the 10,000m run at the Stanford Invitational, the veteran Pioneer smashed her previous personal record and took a commanding lead over the NEC for the event. Hutchins crossed the finish line in 34:51.29, beating her old best by more than 41 seconds and breaking Alyssa Selmquist’s program record (34:58.98). The time she produced in Palo Alto is more than one minute better than the NEC Outdoor Championship meet record (35:56.94) that was set by Bryant’s Eimear Black in 2014. Hutchins’ first 5,000m split from Stanford (17:10.8) is faster than the seasonal best of the NEC’s current 5K leader.
