Byrne stocked up on hardware at the Towson University Invitational. The veteran thrower won the shot put and discus competitions and also picked up a silver medal in the hammer throw. Byrne’s top performance came in his signature event - the shot put. The reigning NEC Indoor champion put the shot 16.06m (52’ 8”) to top a field of 13 throwers. His winning mark was one centimeter shy of the NEC-leading distance he produced at the season-opening Wake Forest Open one week earlier.
