Cooksey was cooking as Sacred Heart opened its season with a three-game set at Northwestern State. The right-handed hurler, who entered the season with the nation’s second-lowest ERA amongst returning pitchers in Division I, threw 6.2 innings of scoreless relief. His lone appearance came during a 16-inning affair, which was the second half of a double header. Cooksey came on with one out in the sixth inning of a 1-1 game and worked all the way through the 12th frame. He scattered three hits and did not issue a base on balls. The third-year Pioneer accounted for three 1-2-3 innings and allowed only two runners to reach second base.
