Smith seems serious about defending her NEC Indoor shot put title. Making rival Aubree Ray’s stay atop the NEC leader board a short one, Smith put the shot 14.07m (46’ 2”) to finish first at Northeastern’s Jay Carisella Invitational. The winning mark, which is more than one-half meter better than the ECAC Championship qualifying standard, catapulted her over Ray and into first place on the conference’s performance list. Smith won both throwing events at the 2014 NEC Indoor Championship en-route to earning the NEC Most Outstanding Field Performer award.
