WEEK 2 STATS: 9 total tackles (4 solo), 1.0 TFL, INT
Sacred Heart held the opposition to fewer than 250 yards of total offense for the second straight week and Wilson was a key reason why. The safety logged a team-high nine tackles and made a number of impactful plays throughout the 27-14 victory over Patriot League member Lafayette. He made 1.0 tackle for a loss and an interception while playing pass defense. Wilson was also a factor in stopping the run. He was in on two tackles that dropped the ball carrier for no gain. Wilson derailed Lafayette’s opening possession when he sniffed out a screen pass and dropped running back Ross Scheuerman for a 5-yard loss on third down. With the game tied 7-7 late in the first quarter, Wilson picked off a Lafayette pass to set up the go-ahead score that gave the Pioneers the lead for good. With SHU nursing a 20-14 advantage late in the third quarter, Wilson stopped a Lafayette receiver short of the sticks on a 3rd-and-8 play.
