WEEK 10 STATS: 96-yard RET TD
In a game that featured only 315 combined yards of total offense, Sacred Heart’s special teams made the difference and Sanford was a key piece of that effort. Sanford, who made four tackles from his defensive back position, turned the momentum in the Pioneers’ favor by scoring a special teams touchdown in the 23-7 road win over Wagner. With SHU clinging to a 10-7 lead late in the third quarter and Wagner lining up for the game-tying field goal attempt, Sanford delivered. Fellow defensive back JD Roussel blocked the Wagner field goal attempt and Sanford alertly corralled the ball at his own 4-yard line. The Alabama-born senior turned upfield, made a few moves along the way and raced 96 yards for a game-changing touchdown.
