The defending NEC champions are off to a blazing hot start and so is their anchor bowler. Leading the Red Flash to a perfect 10-0 record during the season-opening weekend at Kutztown, Derr averaged 20.38 pins per frame over two days of competition. The 5-foot-8 native Pennsylvanian filled 86 of 100 frames bowled and threw a team-high 66 strikes. Derr was especially effective during Saturday’s baker competition. Her 21.8 baker frame average led all bowlers at the tournament and helped the Red Flash to five consecutive baker victories. Derr cooled down a bit during Sunday’s traditional team tournament, but not by much. Her 189.8 traditional average (over 5 games) ranked 10th on the overall leader board.
