Merwine scored both goals in the Blackbirds' 2-1 victory over preseason favorite Central Connecticut last Friday. His first marker came just two minutes into the first half when the senior forward dove for the header off of a cross into the box from teammate Keaton Sprague. With just under 20 minutes left to play in the opening stanza, Merwine would score another goal to put LIU up 2-0 heading into the break. The senior now has nine goals on the season and ranks fifth in the nation in total goals (9).
