WEEK 6 STATS: 9 punts, 322 yds, 35.8 avg., 1 Inside 20, 55-yard TD run
Sammons punted nine times in Bryant’s win over Patriot League member Bucknell, but his most impactful special teams play was the one punt he didn’t attempt. With Bryant holding a 7-0 first-quarter lead, Sammons lined up in punt formation on a 4th-and-7 from the Bulldogs’ 45-yard line. He fielded the snap cleanly, tucked the ball away and scampered 55 yards untouched for a touchdown. The trick play built up more momentum for the home team, which proceeded to take a 27-0 lead into the break. Although Sammons averaged a pedestrian 35.8 yards per punt, Bucknell was able to return only three of nine kicks for a total of eight yards. Sammons, who doubles as a linebacker, also made three tackles as Bryant became the first team to beat Bucknell this season.
