WEEK 1 STATS: 10 total tackles (8 solo), 2.5 TFL, 0.5 sack
Covitz and the Bulldogs clamped down on CAA member Stony Brook in Thursday night’s opener. Spearheading the dominant defensive effort that limited the host Seawolves to 8 first downs and only 186 yards of offense, Covitz totaled 10 tackles (8 solo). The senior defensive end, who led the NEC in sacks last season, once again put his pass-rushing prowess on display and was also stalwart against the run. He logged 2.5 tackles for a loss, including a half-sack, and none of his 10 stops allowed a gain greater than four yards. He twice dropped SBU running back Stacey Bedell for a loss during the Bulldogs’ second-half shutout of Stony Brook.
