Cooksey was the winning pitcher on both ends of a doubleheader sweep that gave Sacred Heart a NEC series split on Staten Island. The right-handed reliever threw 7.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen and allowed only two hits the entire day. Cooksey saw his first action of the week with the Pioneers facing a 3-0 deficit in the fourth inning of Game 3. He proceeded to retire 12 of 14 batters to face him and was the beneficiary of SHU’s four-run sixth inning. After nailing down a 4-3 win in the opening half of the double dip, Cooksey was called upon again in the nightcap. Coming on to start the ninth inning of the series finale, which was tied 1-1 at the time, the righty fired 4.0 perfect innings to earn a 3-1 victory.
