LAST WEEK: 1 Start, CG, SHO, 7.0 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 5 K, 1 BB
Schlitter spun his second straight complete-game shutout by silencing one of the NEC’s most-productive offenses. On his way to posting the lowest WHIP (0.57) of any starting pitcher in the conference last week, the senior right-hander allowed only three singles and one base on balls over 7.0 scoreless frames against LIU Brooklyn. Schlitter limited the NEC’s highest-scoring lineup, which came in averaging 7.3 runs per game, to a .130 (3-for-23) batting average. After giving up singles in the first and second innings, Schlitter held the Blackbirds, who owned a league-high .318 batting average entering the weekend, hitless over the next four frames. He fanned five batters and needed 89 pitches, 56 of which went for strikes, to complete the 7-0 shutout.
