Sportman provided plenty of power during Central Connecticut’s visit to North Jersey. The senior outfielder slugged 1.333 during a four-game NEC series at Fairleigh Dickinson. With five of his nine hits resulting in extra bases, Sportman batted .600 (9-for-15) with six RBI and five runs scored. He went 4-for-5 at the plate in the series opener, smacking a first-inning solo shot and adding a two-run double in the sixth frame of the 6-5 win. Sportman provided all of Central’s offense in Game 2. Powering the Blue Devils to a 3-0 victory, Sportman sent a solo homer over the left-field fence in the third inning and followed with a two-run bomb to center in the sixth. He was responsible for CCSU’s lone two hits in a Game 3 setback and scored the Blue Devils’ only run in the series finale.
