Maxwell made two appearances while pitching to an 0.82 WHIP last week. The rookie right-hander struck out four batters in 2.0 innings of mid-week work against MAAC member Saint Peter’s before throwing a complete-game gem in his NEC debut. Maxwell pitched the Blackbirds to an 11-1 victory in Sunday’s series finale against conference rival Wagner, earning them a split of the four-game set. In 9.0 innings against LIU’s Verrazano Bridge rival, Maxwell surrendered only four hits and one earned run while fanning four. The 6-foot-4 freshman hurler, who needed 104 pitches to put away the Seahawks, allowed two walks and just one extra-base hit (a ninth-inning double) in his first career conference start. He struck out eight batters in 11.0 innings of work last week.
