Ziznewski averaged more than 2.0 hits and 2.0 RBI per game last week. Helping the Blackbirds to three victories in five games, the veteran shortstop hit for average and power while also showing off his wheels. Ziznewski batted .611 (11-for-18) with 11 RBI and six runs scored while slugging 1.056. He recorded two doubles and two home runs and was a perfect 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts. Ziznewski reached base safely 10 times (8 hits, 2 BB) and drove in six runs during LIU’s four-game NEC set against Verrazano Bridge rival Wagner. He was 5-for-7 at the plate with two two-baggers and a homer in LIU’s two NEC victories, which came in Game 2 and Game 4 of the series. Ziznewski homered to tie Game 2 at 2-2 and also made a contribution in the decisive seventh inning. With LIU trailing 3-2 in its final at-bat, Ziznewski worked out a base on balls and eventually scored on Kevin Needham’s walk-off grand slam. In the series finale, an 11-1 win for LIU, Ziznewski connected on a pair of RBI doubles and a run-scoring single. IN an 11-5 mid-week win over MAAC member Saint Peter’s, LIU’s shortstop went 3-for-5 with 5 RBI.
