Twirling a gem for the second week in a row, Coughlin made the nationally-ranked Seton Hall Pirates walk the plank during the first half of Saturday’s doubleheader in New Britain. Following up a 2-1 victory at Central Florida, Coughlin notched his first shutout of the season. The senior righty quieted an offense that had posted a .323 batting average over its first 21 games. He limited the Pirates, who held the No. 22 spot in the most-recent edition of the Collegiate Baseball News Top 30 Poll, to four hits and one base on balls over 7.0 masterful frames. Coughlin, who fanned six batters during the complete-game effort, never faced more than four batters in an inning. The veteran hurler did not allow a runner past second base and retired 10 of the last 12 men to face him.
