Not even rain could put a damper on Patterson’s first career start. The rookie southpaw dazzled in a 4-0 win over North Carolina A&T that was called in the sixth inning due to inclement weather. Patterson, who scattered four hits and walked only one, fanned eight batters in 5.0 innings of work. He recorded five of the game’s first six out via strikeout. Patterson did not allow an extra-base hit and threw 56 of his 83 pitches for strikes. Not only was the win the first of Patterson’s career, but it was the 700th victory in the coaching career of Bryant skipper Steve Owens.
