The Blue Devils won their season opener over MAAC member Iona in extra innings and Blandino was the pitcher of record. Making his collegiate debut out of the bullpen, Blandino baffled opposing batters over 5.0 shutout innings. The Nutmeg State product took the ball in the sixth inning of a 1-1 game and kept Iona at bay until CCSU pushed across the go-ahead run in the top half of the 11th frame. Blandino, who retired the first five batters he faced, allowed only two hits and fanned two. He set down 14 of the first 16 batters to step in against him.
