Sacred Heart’s trip to Tulane was delayed one day because of weather, but Kerski showed no ill effects of the inconvenience when he took the ball for the Pioneers’ season opener on Saturday. The senior right-hander threw 6.0 innings of three-hit ball and earned a 3-2 victory over the Green Wave. Facing a Tulane team that had won all five of its non-conference contests to date, Kerski surrendered only one earned run and struck out six batters. He held the Green Wave without a hit during his first trip through the batting order, but surrendered an unearned run in the third inning when a leadoff walk came around to score with the help of an error. After allowing hits to two of the first three men he faced during the fourth inning, Kerski proceeded to retire the next seven batters in order. The Nutmeg State product surrendered a two-out triple in the sixth inning before striking out Hunter Hope swinging to strand the runner. Kerski is coming off his most-productive season as a Pioneer. As a junior, the righty went 7-2 with a 2.57 ERA over 11 starts.
