Spanou was unstoppable during Robert Morris’ weekend sweep at the Sewall Center. The all-time NEC career leader in double-doubles posted eye-popping numbers in victories over two teams residing in the upper half of the league standings. Powering her team past St. Francis Brooklyn and Sacred Heart, Spanou averaged 35.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists per contest. The Greek-born forward, who eclipsed the 30-point mark in both wins, shot 57.1 percent (20-of-35) from the field and connected at a .879 clip from the free throw line (29-of-33). Spanou poured in 39 points, the most by a player in a NEC game this season, while playing 42 turnover-free minutes in the Colonials’ two-overtime victory over SFBK. She was at it again on Monday night against Sacred Heart. Avenging Robert Morris’ early January loss to the Pioneers, Spanou tallied 31 points, 13 rebounds and six assists. She went 10-of-18 shooting from the field and was a perfect 10-for-10 from the charity stripe in the 90-66 win. With her team (10-2) occupying first place in the NEC standings, Spanou (14.6 rpg) currently ranks second on the NCAA Division I rebounding leader board.
