First, Hutchins took the conference lead in the 5,000m run away from her Sacred Heart teammate Brianna Castrogivanni. Next, she wrestled the NEC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week award away from her fellow Pioneer. Contesting an ultra-competitive field at the BU Terrier Invitational, Hutchins became only the fourth runner in NEC history to turn in a sub-17 minute 5K performance. She jumped out to the lead only one lap into the second of four sections and never looked back. Despite having to run by herself for 24 laps, the junior shaved more than one-half minute off her previous personal best and produced the fifth-fastest time at the meet. Clocking in at 16:54.52, Hutchins shot up to first place on the conference leader board and into the No. 15 spot on the NCAA Division I performance list.
