Mitchell first caught the attention of NEC sports fans for his play at defensive end on Robert Morris’ football team. Currently a graduate student competing for RMU’s track & field squad, Mitchell is arguably the best thrower in the Northeast Conference. Surpassing the IC4A Championship qualifying standard in both events, The burly Colonial made himself the NEC’s early season leader in the shot put and weight throw with his performances at the Youngstown State Penguin Icebreaker. Mitchell set a personal record by putting the shot 16.92m. He flung the 32-pound weight 16.99m. Both marks would go for second-place finishes at Youngstown.
