Last week’s showing was nothing new for Spanou. In fact, dominant double-double performances have become commonplace for the 6-foot-2 Greek-born forward. Extending the second-longest double-double streak in NCAA Division I history to 27 games, Spanou averaged 24.0 points, 17.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per contest as Robert Morris posted a pair of victories. The reigning NEC Player of the Year shot nearly 70 percent from the field (18-26) and over 75 percent from the free throw line (10-13) during the Colonials’ 2-0 week. Powering the Colonials to their first of two runaway victories, Spanou poured in 31 points and pulled down 17 rebounds against MAC member Marshall. She went 11-for-15 shooting from the field and logged four assists over 38 minutes of playing time in the 67-48 win. Spanou closed the week out in similar fashion. Her double-double of 17 points and 17 rebounds carried the Colonials to an 85-60 win over MEAC member Coppin State on Sunday (Nov. 17). Her 11th rebound in the win over Coppin State moved Spanou past Elise James (1,120) for first place on RMU’s career rebounding list. After capturing the 2012-13 NCAA individual statistical rebounding championship, Spanou is again amongst the top rebounders in Division I. Her 14.7 rpg average places her sixth on the early-season leader board.
