Smith spearheaded a defensive effort that limited Central Connecticut to 137 yards and seven points over the first three quarters of an eventual 54-21 road win. The second-year Colonial made five tackles, three of which limited to ball carrier to two yards or fewer. The linebacker’s 31-yard interception return for a touchdown gave Robert Morris a 26-7 lead with 8:38 remaining in the second quarter. Smith’s efforts also helped RMU hold CCSU to a 3-for-14 mark on third downs after the Blue Devils entered the game ranked third nationally in conversion percentage (52.8).
