Central Connecticut was the lone team to open conference play with back-to-back victories this past weekend, and may not have done so without scoring from an unlikely source. Qualter, a rookie defender, had not scored a goal in any of his first nine collegiate contests, but produced a pair of game-winners during NEC Opening Weekend. The English-born Qualter notched his first career goal in the final of the first half during CCSU’s conference opener against LIU Brooklyn. The 6-foot-2 freshman controlled a cross from the right side and buried the ball past the keeper for the lone tally the Blue Devils would need in the eventual 2-0 win. Qualter scored again two days later at Sacred Heart, doing so in dramatic fashion. He delivered the golden goal 2:12 into overtime, lifting CCSU to a 4-3 win over the rival Pioneers.
