Martello made two key plays that led to points for the Dukes in their season-opening win over CAA member UAlbany on Rooney Field. The sophomore linebacker was credited with five tackles (four solo) on the afternoon, including on the game’s first play from scrimmage. Martello and teammate Aaron Reed set the tone when they dropped Albany’s Kevin Chillis for a safety 00:12 into the contest. Protecting a 23-10 third-quarter lead, the blitzing Martello’s sack of Will Fiacchi jarred the ball loose. Dorian Bell recovered the forced fumble to set the Dukes up on the UA 29-yard line. On the next play, Dillon Buechel hit Gianni Carter with a touchdown pass that gave the Dukes a 29-10 lead.
