Central Connecticut and Quinnipiac combined to score 71 runs over their four-game weekend NEC series, but CCSU starter Cody Brown was not responsible for allowing any of them. The sophomore southpaw threw 8.0 scoreless innings on his way to winning the series opener. With the Blue Devils fighting for their postseason lives, their No. 1 starter stepped up and baffled the Bobcats. He allowed only four hits and issued two bases on balls while striking out six batters. Brown’s effectiveness increased as the game wore on. The second-year Blue Devil did not allow a hit over his final 3.0 innings of work to lock up his team-leading fifth victory of the season. Brown set down nine of the last 10 batters he faced, including retiring the side in order in the seventh and eighth innings.
