Setting the tone for Sacred Heart’s series victory over red-hot Bryant, Scribner performed a task no other NEC hurler had managed yet this season. The SHU senior righty shut down the Bulldogs’ high-octane offense, which entered sporting a league-high .313 batting average over its first 12 NEC contests, for the duration of the series opener at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport. Scribner spun all 9.0 frames of the Pioneers’ 4-1 victory, and was dominant in sending Bryant to its first lost in more than one month. He surrendered only one unearned run, which came with two outs in the seventh inning, to a lineup that averaged a conference-high 6.9 runs per game during a 12-0 NEC start. Limiting Bryant to only three hits, Scribner struck out 11 and walked no one. Pinpoint control has been a motif for Scribner’s senior season. The 6-foot-4 hurler has fanned 61 batters and walked only nine over 51.2 innings pitched. His latest effort snapped Bryant’s 19-game overall win streak, which was the longest in NCAA Division I this season, and dealt the Bulldogs their first league loss of the 2013 campaign.
