Aponte remained undefeated in her signature event this season. The Sacred Heart shot putter struck gold for the second week in a row, topping a field of 13 throwers at the Rider University Invitational. She put the shot 14.10m (46’ 3.25”) at Rider, a performance that would catapult her atop the NEC leader board had she not been there already. Aponte, who finished in first at the NEC Indoor Championships this past February, owns a seasonal best of 14.75m (48’ 4.75”). That mark places her 38th overall in the NCAA East Region. With the top 48 in each event getting a bid, Aponte appears poised to earn her first-ever trip to the NCAA East Regional Preliminary Round this season. In 2012, the cut-off for the East Regional in the women’s shot put was 14.71m.
