So far, so good for this sophomore hurler. Looking to take the next step after making 11 appearances as a freshman last year, Hunt has struck out seven batters over the first 4.0 frames of his sophomore season. The 6-foot-4 right-handed reliever was the pitcher of record in Monmouth’s Opening Day win over Villanova on Feb. 15. Inheriting a 3-1 deficit, Hunt came on in the fifth inning of the neutral site contest, which was played in Cary, NC. The second-year Hawk fired 3.0 scoreless innings of one-hit ball, allowing his teammates to turn the two-run deficit into a 7-3 lead. He struck out five batters and issued one walk during the 44-pitch appearance. In Monmouth’s next game, the opener of a three-game weekend set at No. 4 Vanderbilt, Hunt came on in relief of starter Andy McGee with one out and two on in the fifth inning. He struggled a bit with his control, but completed 1.0 full inning of work. The righty allowed one run on three walks and one hit and struck out two. In two appearances as a sophomore, Hunt has pitched to a 2.25 ERA while limiting opposing batters to two hits over 4.0 innings. He has fanned seven batters and walked four.
