Leiningen started a stretch of 21.0 straight scoreless innings by Sacred Heart’s pitching staff this past weekend. The lefty took the ball for Game 2 of the Pioneers’ series against Quinnipiac and spun a 7-inning complete-game shutout. He allowed only four base-runners the entire game, all reaching via singles. The former NEC Rookie of the Year (2011) fanned four batters while walking none during his economical showing. Leiningen retired the side in order during five of the game’s seven frames. He needed to expend only 68 pitches, 46 of which were strikes, to complete the effort.
